The borough of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is made up of a range of beautiful and varied rural centres, as well as several urban centres which have arisen suddenly as a direct or indirect result of the tourist boom in Maspalomas. The rural centres are characterized by their typically Canarian white houses built with craftsmanship ( cf. Ayacata, Artedara, Fataga, Juan Grande ). The most notable of the urban centres are: San Bartolomé (Tunte), Santa Agueda, Cercados de Espino, Cercados de Araña, El Tablero, San Fernando de Maspalomas, San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, Castillo del Romeral and Aldea Blanca.

Dunas de Maspalomas MASPALOMAS
The Maspalomas delta, namely "El Charco ( The Pool ) de Maspalomas", the Field of Dunes and "El Palmeral" ( The Palm Grove ), is an area of enormous interest, as much for its scenery as for its geomorphology, botany and fauna. In 1987 it was declared a Nature Spot of National Interest and in the present day it has the status of Special Nature Reserve. The dunes rise up in Playa del Inglés and are carried westwards by the prevailing winds acquiring the shape of half moons until they reach El Charco and the foot of the Fataga Ravine where they end.

MELONERAS, MASPALOMAS, PLAYA DEL INGLÉS AND LAS BURRAS
Making one's way along the shoreline from where the borough terminates and in the direction of Las Palmas, these are the four beaches which will be crossed. The first of these is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation with the development of an elite accommodation and leisure infrastructure of the very highest standards. The beaches of Maspalomas and del Inglés are the most famous, most frequented and arguably the most beautiful of the four -especially Maspalomas with its splendid dunes.
Las Burras beach, somewhat smaller and quieter, is also much loved by locals and tourists alike.

FUN AND LEISURE
In general, the Maspalomas nightlife is to be found in Playa del Inglés (though also in San Agustín). The places to go to are spread about in the Shopping Centres, the main streets, hotels, squares and especially in the area around the Ecumenical Church in Maspalomas Square. There are places for all ages and all tastes, from the quiet to the noisy to the romantic, for those who wish to dance or for those who simply enjoy good conversation. In the tourist area there are also various types of nightclubs with shows and more than 40 discotheques, disco pubs, disco bars, terrace bars, bars for dancing, as well as a Casino and an excellent Golf Course.

MUNDO ABORIGEN
On show in a natural setting of great beauty at Mundo Aborigen are the different aspects of the aboriginal inhabitants' life on the Island some five centuries ago: their organizational hierarchy, their world of magic and religion, the social mores, the dietary habits, the agricultural and livestock techniques... all of which is represented by life-size figures in settlements accurately reconstructed together with the constructions of the time and the tools and utensils as used by the aboriginals in their daily life, and all in a natural setting of flora endemic to the island. Shows with actors bring to life the sports and competitions which the native inhabitants participated in. There is also a restaurant and handicraft shop.
