Iglesia de San Juan Bautista ( St.John the baptist Church )
This beautiful place of worship, known for its grandeur as "The Cathedral", saw its first stone laid in 1909 and was finally completed in 1977. It is pure neogothic in style and was built from basalt stone from the local quarries. Inside the building there is a splendid Reclining Christ by the sculptor Manuel Ramos, as well as other valuable works of Flemish and Italian art.
EL JARDÍN BOTÁNICO DE LA MARQUESA ( BOTANIC GARDENS ) There are numerous landscaped parks and gardens in the city of Arucas, though undoubtedly the one most worth seeing is "The Marchess's Garden". Much visited by tourists, it is to be found just 1 km. from the city centre and has an extensive collection of Canarian and tropical plants, making it an obligatory stop for nature lovers.
Buildings also well worth a visit include "La Casa Gourié", "El Palacio del Marquesado" and "La Casa de la Cultura" in the city centre. Doramas Mountain has other fine examples of Canarian flora, whilst the Arucan Distillers' Rum Museum, more than a hundred years old, remains high on the list of quality production of the most traditional of Canarian drinks.
