ATALAYA AND LA CALDERA DE BANDAMA
Atalaya nowadays is a superlative vantage point from where one can see with ease the natural divisions of the stunning landscapes the borough has to offer. In olden times, however, Atalaya was a defensive bastion of the natives in their wars against the invaders. From the front steep cliffs make access difficult and this helped make the place a magnificent stronghold against the attacks of the Castilians. The Natural Monument of Bandama consists of a crater formed in the most recent volcanic cycle surrounded by a natural park of abundant flora.
VINEYARDS AND CROPS
An area for all types of crops, including tobacco, the borough is fast acquiring fame thanks to a strong marketing campaign on behalf of the vine and its product par excellence: wine. A traditional area of fine wine, a few years ago the borough succeeded in relaunching production on a commercial scale and has been awarded a " denominación de origen " ( Spanish quality guarantee system ) for its El Monte wine . The borough also enjoys a fine and varied flower production
MONTE LENTISCAL AND MADROÑAL A few years ago the first of these two places was a mastic tree wood ( hence its name in Spanish ), though it is today a residential area of certain affluence; the second is an urban centre whose principal occupation is agriculture and whose name comes from an old wood of strawberry trees ( madroño in Spanish ) that can be found on the outskirts.
