Agüimes town is situated on the slopes of the Southeast side of Gran Canaria island. It streches on 76 km2 and its climate is soft ( 20ºC yearly average ) with scarce rainfalls.
From the traditional hamlet called Temisas, on the top of the municipality, to the fishing village called Arinaga, Agüimes'history is told to us.Through the municipality, we are told about Agüimes' indigenous population remains, its traditional architecture, its wonderful landscapes, its inhabitants hospitality and its great folk and craft richness.

 Apart from enjoying the environment and the climate, there are very interesting places to be discovered, not only landscapes but anthropological sites as well, such as the very beautiful Monumento Natural del Barranco de Guayadeque (Natural Monument of Guayadeque ravine) where a very numerous indigenous population lived, as a lot of pre-Hispanic remains, found in its caves show. Other pre-Hispanic places are: Monumento Natural del Roque Aguayro (Natural Monument of Aguayro Rocks), Montaña Cercada (Cercada Mountain's natives remains) and Barranco de Balos (Balos Ravine's natives remains).
Many activities await you in Agüimes:
- Spanish classes for foreigners (Red TANDEM), hiking, riding classes, riding excursions, climbing, roping down, puenting, nautical sports and even diving in Arinaga, Cabrón and Vargas beaches. Those beaches are perfect for any water sport, especially Windsurfing, but also, just for sunbathing.
Also Fiestas and Festivals :
- "Fiestas de Nuestra Señora del Rosario" ( religious feast) from Oct. 28th to Nov. 6th,
- " Traía del Gofio y Agua" (traditional feast,
- "Festival del South - Encuentro Teatral 3 Continentes": theatre festival, with artists from three continents Europa, Africa and América,
- "Encuentro Iberoamericano de Narración Oral Escénica": theatrical oral narration from Spanish spoken countries over the world,
- and, of course, "Carnaval".
Some young people from the municipality have carefully restored some of the most representative traditional Canarian houses inside the old historical centre of the town (Cultural heritage). Moreover, they have made pieces of furniture according to our typical carpentry, giving our houses a nice and pure traditional style.
Agüimes town Hall purpose consists in developping the local economy through a project based on an appropriate rural tourism, helping that way with the protection and preservation of the environment.
How to get there:
From the airport, take the motorway to the South and leave it on the first exit to "Carrizal". From there, take on the right side at the second cross with traffic lights and go on to “Ingenio”, where you will turn left to get to Agüimes. (That takes about 15-20 min.).
